Anonymous Peer-review Procedure
The articles and communications submitted to Balgarski åzik (Bulgarian Language Journal) are reviewed and accepted for publication after a double-blind peer-review procedure. The reviews are made by two independent reviewers; both reviewers and authors are anonymous. By submitting the article to the journal, the author automatically agrees with the procedure. Within a 14-day period after the submission of the article, the editor-in-chief makes a brief preliminary review to assess the article’s relevance to the journal’s objectives and scope and its compliance with the required format and then submits an anonymised copy to two independent reviewers whose research interests are closest to the article’s topic. The reviewers are selected from a pool of prominent Bulgarian and foreign scholars, representing 18 scientific institutions from Bulgaria and abroad, who are experts in the relevant scientific field. The reviewers submit their reviews within a 20-day period.
The reviews must follow the guidelines laid out in the Review form at: https://www.balgarskiezik.eu/EN/evaluation-form.html. The reviewers also recommend in the Review form whether the article should be: published without further editing; published with editorial corrections; published with necessary corrections and without a second round of reviews; published after major revision and a second round of reviews; rejected. The authors must be notified within a 7-day period of the receipt of the reviews and must make corrections according the recommendations made in the reviews (if there are any) and re-submit the final version of their articles within a 2-week period. If a reviewer recommends major revisions and a second round of reviews, the article is returned to the author to make the recommended revision (if he or she agrees with the recommendations), and the article is then re-submitted for a second round of reviews. If the article is rejected by both reviewers, it shall not be published, and the author is not notified of the decision. If one of the reviewers recommends that the article should not be published, it is submitted to a third reviewer. If an author states in writing that he or she does not agree with the recommendations of a reviewer, the author has the right to withdraw his or her article. Otherwise, the article is submitted to a third reviewer and the editorial board makes a final decision. The time period between the submission of an article and its publication is 3 to 5 months and is related to the thematic organisation of the issues. The reviewed and corrected version of the article is re-submitted for evaluation by the editorial board. Based on the reviewer’s recommendations, the editorial board makes a final decision for publication or for reasonable rejection. The articles accepted for publication are then submitted for scientific editing by the responsible editor of the relevant issue.
